The Nyukmadong War Memorial

The Nyukmadong War Memorial is situated on a spacious 1.5-acre plot, overlooking the historic battleground of the fierce conflict that took place on 18 November 1962. Nestled within a serene, three-tiered terraced landscape adorned with beautiful coniferous trees, the memorial provides a tranquil yet powerful setting for remembrance.At the heart of the memorial stands a striking 25-foot-high ‘Chorten’—a structure deeply rooted in local Buddhist traditions and symbolism. The entrance to the memorial resembles the main access gate to a monastery, reflecting the rich cultural ethos of the region. On either side of the Chorten, polished plaques bear the engraved names of the brave officers and Jawans who made the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day.The site is staffed by experienced Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), who graciously share detailed accounts of the battle, providing visitors with a vivid understanding of the courage and determination exhibited during the conflict.
